Tim Waters is leaving the Royal Wolverhampton School to become head at Trinity School, in Teignmouth, Devon.

Mr Waters said the move was for family reasons and said he was leaving the Penn Road school in an excellent state.

Peter Hill, chairman of The Royal Wolverhampton School, said Mr Waters would depart next April.

The head has overseen the £2.6 million building of a new swimming pool after the original was destroyed by fire two years ago.

The school has also created a new sixth form centre and refurbished the nursery and junior school during his time in charge.

Mr Waters said: "The school is in very good shape with excellent staff, top notch facilities and delightful pupils.

"I have every confidence that the Royal will attract some excellent candidates for the headship in due course.

"I will leave with very positive memories of both the school and the city and look forward to returning as a friend of the school for many years to come."

The Royal has just registered its best ever A-level and GCSE results.
