The start of the project was recently officially marked with a turf-cutting ceremony by assistant headteacher Peter Behan, an event attended by representatives of the council, Interclass PLC builders as well as pupils and staff.
Malcolm Williams, the council's head of property services, said: "This is a really exciting project we are delighted to be funding and are looking forward to being completed.
"The new complex will provide Hagley with dedicated, state-of-the-art sports facilities of which they will be able to be proud."
Work on the project will see the construction of a four-court sports hall, changing rooms, toilets, an office and a storage area. The sports hall has also been designed by staff in the council's property services department to accommodate four badminton courts.
It will also have facilities for netball, hockey, football and basketball.
One of the main uses of the hall will be trampolining, for which councillors have claimed that there is a big demand.
Work on building of the hall is set to be completed in June next year.
