Steve Morgan's £30m takeover has boosted Wolves' chances of hanging on to some of the players who helped guide them into the play-offs next season.

Michael Kightly and Matt Murray have been watched by Premiership scouts, but boss McCarthy has already received reassurances that they will play a huge part in the Molineux promotion push next season.

"If I'd had to sell some of my players at the end of the season I would not have been a happy bunny," he said.

"That wasn't going to be the case anyway, I'm saying that with impunity because I knew it wouldn't happen irrespective of any takeover. I was safe in the knowledge that was the case but this helps, of course it does."

McCarthy insisted there will be no mixed feelings in the squad about the cash investment.

"I think this should excite the players," he said. "I'm sure some might look at this and think, 'now we'll get big players and I'll be gone'. I never view it like that, I tend to view it as 'great, if I can be involved in that team now we'll be able to take another step forward'.

That's the way I think people should view it. But it is a new era and is going to be different."
