TV star Matthew to open bar

Actor and television presenter Matthew Kelly is heading for Lichfield to make a grand unveiling at the city's theatre.

The star will officially launch the venue's new £25,000 bar and cafe.

Former Stars in Their Eyes presenter Kelly will be their on February 8.

Lichfield Garrick artistic director Adrian Jackson said: "I am delighted Matthew Kelly will be opening our new Green Room Bar and Cafe.

"To have attracted a famous television host and award-winning actor to do the honours will add a real buzz to the proceedings."

Guests at the launch will enjoy entertainment from comedienne Lizzie Wiggins and from Arthur Brown Dixieland Jazz.

The new Lichfield Visitor Guide will also be revealed.

Builders have begun work to transform the venue's ground-floor cafe into The Green Room Bar and Cafe.

It is closed until January 31 while the work takes place. Funded by Carlsberg Brewery, it is the first time the cafe has been refurbished since the theatre opened.
