What is the new BMW X5 going up against?

Fifth-generation car is available with a broad range of engines, but it still has some competition to take on.
BMW has just revealed its fifth-generation X5, showcasing a brand-new look for this popular SUV. Available with petrol, diesel, hybrid, hydrogen and electric powertrains, the new X5 certainly has variety on its side, but it’s also equipped with some of BMW’s latest technology.
However, even with all of these features on its side, the BMW X5 will still have some key rivals to fend off. Let’s take a look at them.
Mercedes GLE

The GLE also gets seven-seater capability and while no electric version is available, you’ll still be able to get it with petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid options.
Porsche Cayenne/Cayenne Electric

The ‘regular’ Cayenne remains one of the best-to-drive cars in its class, too, and is well finished inside with lots of high-end materials.
Volvo XC90/EX90

Both cars get Volvo’s latest infotainment system, too, which uses Android software as standard to give quick access to apps such as Google Maps.
Audi Q7

For now, the Q7 will be offered with just a single engine – a turbocharged diesel unit.
Range Rover Sport

Though no electric version, it’s anticipated that a battery-powered Sport model will be introduced later this year, giving the X5 yet another rival to deal with.
Lexus RX
Inside, there are lots of premium materials and it’s all brought together with rock-solid build quality.
