Production of Tesla’s Cybertruck appears to be drawing to a close, the car manufacturer’s boss Elon Musk has hinted.

Speaking via X, Musk said: “Tesla will be winding down production of the Cybertruck at Gigafactory Texas around the middle of next year to make room for increased Cybercab production.”

The Cybertruck was first revealed back in 2019, with a now-famous showcase of the vehicle’s unbreakable glass showing panels that shattered during a live demonstration.

Affected by delays and produced at Tesla’s Gigafactory in Austin, Texas, the Cybertruck broke new ground for electric vehicles when it was finally launched in 2023.

Once on sale, the Cybertruck was hampered by recalls, with a warning by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) back in March last year highlighting an issue that could see an exterior panel running alongside both sides of teh vehicle detach while driving. The recall covered more than 46,000 Cybertrucks at the time.

With its angular stainless steel body, the Cybertruck was never officially permitted to go on sale in the UK. One model which was being unlawfully driven near Manchester was seized in January 2025, with officers discovering that the car was both registered and insured abroad, making it prohibited to drive in the UK.

The new Cybercab is Tesla’s upcoming autonomous robotaxi which aims to deliver rides in cities across the US. It was unveiled in 2024, and this year it has commenced test cycles on roads surrounding the production facility in Austin.
