Ferrari will offer manual transmission on 12Cilindri with a twist

The 12Cilindri ‘Manuale’ will use ‘clutch-by-wire’ technology and will be limited to 1,499 units.
Ferrari is bringing back the manual gearbox on the 12Cilindri supercar, though it’s not a traditional transmission.
The 12Cilindri Manuale will use a standard manual gear lever with a six-speed shift pattern and a ‘clutch-by-wire’ pedal.
The car’s ‘clutch-by-wire’ technology uses Ferrari’s eight-speed DCT automatic transmission, which has been redesigned with new components including a gear lever, a control panel and clutch pedal to simulate a manual gearbox.

The system is equipped with sensors and mechanisms to replicate a Ferrari gearshift. A pedal position sensor sends a signal to the hydraulic actuators on the DCT clutch and the angle position sensor constantly monitors the driver’s pedal travel and gear lever positions to replicate the most accurate gear change.
In manual mode, the first six forward gears and reverse can be controlled by the clutch-by-wire system, though there is an automatic mode for drivers to choose between.

Inside, the 12Cilindri Manuale’s cabin has been given subtle changes with a redesigned centre console and the aluminium gear knob has a backlit screen print on its shift pattern.
Just 1,499 examples of the Ferrari 12Cilindri Manuale will be produced with more details on prices and UK availability to be revealed later this year.
