The star, boasting a career spanning more than 40 years will be at JBs, Castle Hill, Dudley, on April 24.

He is the latest star to play JBs, including rock legend Robert Plant and former Blur frontman Damon Albarn's new band The Good, The Bad and The Queen. In June The Happy Mondays headline.

JBs boss Sam Jukes said: "It seems to be in vogue for bands to play at more intimate venues. It gives the stars a chance to get up close and personal with the fans.

"Winwood is a quality vocalist and I fully expect his concert to be a sell out. We have been working for the last 18 months to try and zone in on more original bands."

Birmingham-born Winwood, aged 57, has sealed his place in history both as a solo artist and as a member of bands such as the Spencer Davis Group, Traffic and Blind Faith.

He has registered chart-topping, platinum-selling albums and singles, collected Grammy awards and has jammed and recorded with everyone from George Harrison and Jimi Hendrix to Muddy Waters and John Lee Hooker.
