Black Country Ales has put out a notice for anyone interested in taking on running the Pretty Bricks on John Street.

The pub is one of 35 that the brewery owns and holds a lot of history, dating back to the 1840s as the New Inn and with its current name taken from the coloured, glazed bricks at the front.

It was also one of the few pubs from which the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) was launched nationally in 1972, with the Walsall CAMRA branch launching the same year.

The pub has a front bar with a warm and friendly atmosphere and the snug-style lounge has a more intimate feel, while both rooms feature real fires and there's also traditional pub fare on offer like cobs, pork pies and sausage rolls.

Ales on offer include Black Country Bradley's Finest Golden, Black Country Fireside and Black Country Pig on the Wall.

A spokesman for Black Country Ales said: "We’re looking for someone special to manage The Pretty Bricks, one of Walsall’s most characterful and historic pubs.

"Built around 1845 and originally known as the New Inn, it earned its enduring nickname from the distinctive brown and cream glazed bricks on its façade.

"Significant alterations in 1924 under Showell’s of Langley shaped much of the layout you’ll still find today: three rooms around a central bar with a traditional multi-servery, an off-sales hatch, an upstairs function room, and a courtyard seating area.

"We’re looking for someone with a strong work ethic and a genuine interest in pubs, people, and real ale. Experience with cask is helpful but not essential. High standards, reliability, and consistency matter most.

"This role suits an individual or a couple and, as with all our pubs, accommodation is provided above the premises.

"Apply by sending your CV to recruitment@blackcountryales.co.uk."
