170 pensioners turn Black County town hall into a Peaky Blinders bonanza

Around 170 pensioners gathered at Wednesbury Town Hall for a Peaky Blinders event.

Visitors to the Let's Dance Again event at Wednesbury Town Hall dressed as Peaky Blinders on Thursday (March, 5) to celebrate the new Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man film.

"We've got 170 pensioners all dressed in their gear. We've got people from the Black Country museum. We got Polly, we've got the lookalikes," said Elaine Costigan, who is the chair and a lead volunteer of Let’s Dance Again. 

The charity is one that provides social activities and support for the elderly community.

At this year's event, Peaky Blinders was on everyone's mind due to the brand-new film. 

"Everybody is dressed up, and it's just honestly it's brilliant, absolutely brilliant," Elaine said.

Geraldine Jennings who is a professional Polly Gray lookalike marvelled at the 'electric' atmosphere as she arrived at Wednesbury Town Hall. 

She shared: "Every time I come to one of these events, I always expect it to be spectacular. But this particular event, the energy is electric in here today. Not only is the room dressed beautifully but everybody attending has made an fantastic effort. They all look so beautiful and everyone is pleased to see us. I'm very happy to be here."

Geraldine was impressed by the 'original' outfits that some of the elderly women were wearing, she said: "Just talking to a few of the lovely ladies and they've bought some of the original wears, that their mothers and grandmothers had as well."

Similarly, Paul O'Riordan whose a professional Arthur Shelby lookalike shared how he was impressed by the 'effort' made by those in attendance. He said: "I well impressed how the elders have all dressed up and made an effort, it's bang on."

Mr O'Riordan who is the landlord at The King's Arms in Tipton touted his strong resemblance to the famed character, "everyone thinks I am him. If you see me then you'll be gobsmacked."

The charity holds monthly events at Wednesbury Town Hall. As well as hosting, weekly coffee mornings on Monday mornings between 11.30am - 1.30pm, also at Wednesbury Town Hall.
