A 24 year-old bingo player has won the £50,000 jackpot at a club in Bilston on his first visit in four years
The 24-year-old was enjoying his first visit to Mecca Bingo on Spring Vale Retail Park in Bilston over four years when he scooped the jackpot.
The mystery man was playing the National Bingo Game on Saturday, February 7 when he scooped the top prize.
The bingo fan, who wishes to remain anonymous, admitted that he was a little nervous and almost didn’t shout out to claim his prize – and when he did, was completely unaware that he had won the fabulous jackpot.
The £50,000 cash prize is triggered when a player matches all the numbers on their ticket and claims a ‘full house’ within the first 16 numbers being called.
“He looked absolutely stunned,” said Mecca’s Amy Shermer, who was the caller on the game.
“It was a busy Saturday night, and when the message that we had a jackpot winner in the room flashed up on my screen I thought, ‘oh my life!’.
“The winner looked so shocked. His friends were jumping up and down and when another player told him that he’d hit the jackpot, he just couldn’t believe it - he thought they were winding him up and told them to ‘get lost’!”
Amy said that the winner was so overwhelmed when she confirmed the £50,000 prize, that he needed to step outside to get some fresh air.
“I don’t think he actually believed it until we told him that there was paperwork that we needed to fill out,” she continued.
This latest jackpot marks Mecca Bilston’s second £50k National Bingo Game win in just six months - the last time someone won it in Bilston was on July 24.
In total, the club’s customers have taken home more than £1.99m in prize money last year alone.
“In 16 years working here, this is the biggest prize that I’ve announced,” added Amy. “It’s an incredible adrenaline rush when we have a big win. I love working here and making people smile.”
And from February 12, the National Bingo Game prizes have got even bigger, with the launch of a new £250,000 jackpot.
Players who make a full house claim within the first 14 numbers being called will now scoop a cool £250k prize.
The National Bingo Game is played twice a day, every day, 364 days a year at all Mecca Clubs.
