Lamb, beef and cauliflower cheese: Wolverhampton has been named one of the cheapest places for a Sunday roast in the UK - here's what Wulfrunians love best about the traditional dish
The Sunday roast dinner is something which has become a traditional part of life for many people, whether that's as a homecooked meal or through going out to eat.
Across the West Midlands, there are people who, on a Sunday, will settle down for a meal full of roast potatoes, Yorkshire puddings, several types of vegetables, cauliflower cheese and at least one type of meat, all covered in gravy.
While a lot of households will have a homecooked meal prepared by one or more people, there are just as many people who will go out to a pub or restaurant in their local area to enjoy a roast cooked by chefs and either included as a full dish or as a carvery.
In a recent study, a top 10 list of the cheapest cities to buy a traditional Sunday roast was produced, with Wolverhampton ranking third on the list and a Sunday roast costing an average of £14.26, a price only bettered by Doncaster and Swansea.
The city has a lot of pubs, restaurants and other eateries that serve up a Sunday roast, as well as plenty of towns and villages on the outskirts, and for people visiting Wolverhampton for shopping and work, there is a debate around what the best additions to a roast dinner are and where the best places to go for one are.
Rounding out the top three, in the research by online casinos website Sweepstakes Table, is Wolverhampton, where a Sunday roast costs an average of £14.26. The West Midlands city maintains the trend of affordable dining, with prices still well below the £15 mark. It's clear that the Midlands region offers some of the best value in the country for this weekend staple
Here's a look at the top ten cheapest places in the UK for a Sunday Roast - see how Wolverhampton compares:
Among those who liked all or most of the additions to a roast meal were Brian Roberts and Julie Timmins from Coseley, with 71-year-old Brian saying he preferred a lamb dinner, while 68-year-old Julie said that while she was a pescatarian, she still liked the vegetables and other bits with some salmon, although neither said they would go out to buy a meal.

Brian said: "The best meal for me is a lamb roast, with potatoes, peas, carrots, Yorkshire pudding and lots of gravy, with lamb being the first choice for me every time.
"I just like to have the standard things that go with it as I'm very old fashioned and traditional with it and I probably wouldn't go out for it as it can be pretty expensive, once you've factored in food and drink and travel."
Julie said: "I'm vegetarian, but I'm also pescatarian, so I'll still have all the bits that go with it with a nice piece of salmon.
"We don't eat out as it is as it's expensive, so we probably wouldn't want to go out for a Sunday roast dinner."

Among those living a bit further outside Wolverhampton, but working there through being a staff member at Wolverhampton College, was 45-year-old Greg Spruce, who lives in Stourton and said he was happy to go out for a roast dinner, but more on the outskirts.
He said: "For me, roast potatoes have got to be part of it, with at least three or four vegetables and, if you're going out for a roast, I think cauliflower cheese needs to be on there as well.
"I like pork or beef, but I do like lamb sometimes, which you rarely see on the menu now and if you spoke to my dad, he'd be very sad to here that as he loves lamb, keeping it to the traditional sides.
"I'm more likely to places in south Staffordshire or into Shropshire and while I'm sure Wolverhampton has good places, you're more likely to think of mixed grill pubs than your traditional roast dinner."
Scott Bird also works in Wolverhampton, commuting in from Sandwell, and the 33-year-old said he felt there were some nice places in Wolverhampton.

He said: "The best component for any Sunday lunch for me is cauliflower cheese and I could happily just have that with the spuds and veg, although I would have beef if it needed a meat as it's the first thing you think of when you think of Sunday roasts, as well as Yorkshire pudding.
"I don't go out much in Wolverhampton, but if I did go for a roast dinner, there's nice places in the city centre, like the Wetherspoons and the Hungry Horse, as they'll do a good roast dinner."
