The 1970s dinner party favourite that West Midlands wine lovers are indulging on this winter
A popular West Midlands wine bar is serving up a 1970s dinner party favourite and food fans are loving it
Vagabond Wines on Colmore Row in Birmingham city centre has brought back its festive fondue for winter 2025 - and it’s going down a treat with guests.
This year, the indulgence goes up a notch with the launch of a Black Truffle Swiss Fondue upgrade – a decadent twist designed to elevate the sharing experience.
The team promise that the bubbling pot of Swiss cheese served with toasted baguette, soft-herb potatoes and pickles, is perfect for enjoying with friends.
Guests can supercharge their pots with rich black truffle, alongside the return of fan-favourite add-ons including pigs-in-blankets, portobello mushrooms and Serrano with gnocco fritto.
The fondue is a winter ritual for cheese lovers, date-nighters and group celebrations alike.

Originally a hearty meal for Swiss Alpine people during the winter months, fondue became a national dish of Switzerland in the 1930s thanks to the Swiss Cheese Union.
Fondue is derived from the French world ‘fondre’ which means ‘to melt’.
It grew in popularity around the world, especially in the UK in the 1970s at dinner parties - no wonder Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy film gave it a mention.

Christobell Giles, Managing Director of Vagabond Wines, said: “Fondue was pure joy last year – it gave guests permission to gather, indulge, and have fun, and it delivered real commercial results too. We wanted to build on that energy rather than simply repeat it, so this year we’ve turned up the flavour dial.
"The black truffle upgrade is for people who really want to lean in and make those winter moments special. It’s a classic Vagabond move: keep the experience playful, keep it delicious, and give people a reason to come back.”
The Festive Fondue is available now across all Vagabond bars, with pricing starting from £22 per person and a truffle upgrade available at an additional cost (£6 per person). Early bookings are strongly
encouraged.
