Firkins Bakery was born in West Bromwich and came home 10 years after the company closed down as a featured part of the West Bromwich Indoor Market food court.

Founded in 1870 by Mary Firkin in Carters Green in West Bromwich, the bakery first made its name with award-winning pork pies before growing into one of the largest regional family bakeries in the country.

Though the Firkins family stepped away from the business in 2006, the name and reputation have lived on and after being spurred on by loyal customers who never stopped asking when the much-loved cakes, breads and pastries would make a comeback, Firkins has returned home to a new base inside the new Indoor Market.

The reopening as part of the first day of the new market saw people queueing around the food court and out of the doors as they waited to get their hands of one of the famous pineapple tarts, cream cakes and other baked goods.
