Hednesford Park revamp skates along nicely

The next phase of Hednesford Park's £2 million revamp is well underway — with youngsters soon to have access to a brand new skate park.

The work, which is due to finish in 2017, is gathering pace with a children's play area recently finished, alongside ongoing work to create a new pavilion.

The park was awarded £2.2million from the Heritage Lottery Fund in 2012 and the money is being used to fund the works, including the new skate park.

Cindy Faulkner, a member of the Friends of Hednesford Park group, said the end is in sight for the project.

She said: "The skate park is coming along nicely now, I am not sure of the exact date when it will be finished but there have been no hiccups so far.

"As a whole, the project is coming along nicely, everything is going to plan.

"I think the workers are starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel and it is all looking really nice.

"The pavilion in particular is looking absolutely beautiful from the outside."

As part of the wider transformation of the beauty spot, the pavilion is being extended to two storeys featuring a community room, balcony and ground floor café.

A new car park is also being created, while new tennis courts have already been installed.

Cindy also claimed it was 'incredible' how well the recently completed children's play area was being used already.

She said: "The amount of people who are using the play area is incredible.

"Whenever I have drove past it has been full of kids.

"Even in the week when the older ones are at school, you still have mothers taking their very young ones to use it.

"That is a great feeling because this is exactly what we wanted."

With the end of the line in sight for the revamp, Cindy said she and the other Friends of Hednesford Park are excited to see the final results.

She said: "Everything is going to look really nice.

"We are all getting very excited now about getting the whole job done, we are close to the end."
