On a cold December evening my boyfriend and I decided to grab a piping hot curry.

After scouring an array of takeaway menus in the kitchen drawer our eyes fell upon an old favourite - The Dilshad.

In my experience, this particular restaurant can always be relied upon to create delicious food that never fails to whet an appetite. As we were both feeling pretty peckish we thought we would treat ourselves to some starters to share.

The range of appetisers is quite impressive and has all of the usual dishes including samosas, onion bhajis and tandoori chicken as well as stuffed peppers, prawn cocktail and tandoori fish.

Not feeling in a particularly adventurous mood, however, we went for some of our tried and tested favourites - tandoori chicken tikka, £2.60, sheek kebab, £2.45, and a spring roll, £2.85.

There was more than enough of each starter to be shared between two, or even three, and the food tasted wonderful.

The chicken tikka was plentiful and the meat was white and succulent - definitely worth the 35-minute delivery wait.

Having anticipated that the starters would be fairly filling, we decided to order smaller main meals and opted for the combination dishes. These portions are around half the size of a normal meal and there is a selection featured on the menu including chicken chat masala with a mince bhuna or chicken tikka garlic with tandoori chicken jalfrezi.

However, The Dilshad is happy to accommodate requests for dishes that are not mentioned on the list of combination meals.

I went for a chicken tikka korma while Tom decided on a chicken tikka bhuna - £7.30 for the two. We topped off the meal with a portion of egg fried rice, £2.30, and tasty chunky chips, £1.10.

There are plenty of extras available, such as nan breads including garlic, chilli, mushroom and keema.

The Dilshad is open seven days a week from 5.30pm until late.
