But the music fan took to the DJ decks to start of his own party at Goldfield Court care home in West Bromwich.

The resident DJ was joined with friends and family, who listened as he played hits from stars such as Frank Sinatra and Louis Armstrong.

Mr Taylor's skills are in such demand he often stages parties for weddings and birthdays at churches and community centres in the town including at the Turner Street scout huts.

The retired machine tool operator has been DJ at Goldfield Court since moving there three years ago.

A buffet was laid on during his birthday party, where he is also played his favourite record Lyin' Eyes by The Eagles.

There were also salsa tracks and line dancing records to get the party in full swing last Friday.

"It was a lovely party and I really enjoyed it," said Mr Taylor, once of Wheatley Street.

"We had a group of families living by us during the war and we used to have these parties. I still enjoy it now. I have hundreds of records and CDs."
