Emergency services helping with vehicle recovery after five lorries and a car collide on M5 in West Bromwich

Emergency services are in attendance at a crash on the M5 in the West Midlands following a multi-vehicle crash.

National Highways West Midlands posted shortly before 2pm on Monday, March 23 reporting that two of the three lanes on the M5 between junction one at West Bromwich and the M6 due to a crash involving several vehicles.

West Midlands Roads described it as a 'major disruption,' and congestion has built back towards junction two on the M5 at Oldbury. Road users are advised to allow for plenty of time to complete their journeys and take alternate routes where possible.

West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "We were called to reports of a multi-vehicle RTC on the northbound M5, just after junction 1, at 12.59pm.

"One ambulance, a paramedic officer and a MERIT trauma doctor, with a Critical Care Paramedic, attended the scene. We treated one patient, a woman, for minor injuries before she was taken to Midland Metropolitan University Hospital for further assessment."

A spokesman from West Midlands Fire Service said: "Shortly before 1.05pm on Monday (23 March), we responded to the M5 motorway northbound between junction one and zero.

"Three fire engines from West Bromwich, Smethwick and Bickenhill attended, the first arriving within five minutes of being mobilised. A crew of technical rescue firefighters also attended.

"This was a collision involving five lorries and a car. Everyone freed themselves from their vehicles. Firefighters helped lift a heavy goods vehicle that had collided with a car.

"One person received treatment from attending paramedics. Police colleagues supported Highways with vehicle recovery and we left this incident at 3.05pm."

West Midlands Police have also been approached for comment.
