Is your school open on Friday? Latest school closures planned for Black Country and Staffordshire after Storm Goretti heavy snow
Schools across the Black Country and Staffordshire have announced they will be closed on Friday in preparation of Storm Goretti.
A number of schools across the Black Country and Staffordshire have announced that they are closed today (Friday) as experts predict the region will be battered by snow on Friday.
An amber alert for snow came into force at 8pm on Thursday which covered much of the Black Country and Staffordshire.
The Met Office warning was in place until 9am on Friday (January 9), with the forecaster is urging people to prepare for "disruption and dangerous travelling conditions".
Here are a list of schools closed on Friday:
Wolverhampton
Wightwick Hall School
Wightwick Hall School on Tinacre Hill in Wightwick, Wolverhampton is the first school to publicly confirm they will be closed tomorrow afternoon, with more expected to follow this evening and tomorrow (Friday, January 8) morning.
An update posted on the school's website read: "This decision has been taken following consideration of the Met Office weather forecast and Wolverhampton Council’s decision to suspend all passenger transport services due to safety concerns.
"Closure is necessary to ensure the safety of students, families and staff. Students have been provided with work packs to complete at home."
Claregate Primary School
Claregate Primary School in Tettenhall, Wolverhampton, has also announced that it is closed on Friday due to the snow forecasts.
Parents were told: "It is with deep regret that we must inform you that school will be closed tomorrow, Friday 9th January 2026. This decision has not been made lightly and follows advice from the Local Authority. BAT and CAT club will also be closed. We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as necessary."
Ignite Academy Trust (ALL)
Ignite Academy Trust is closing all its primary schools in Wolverhampton.
They are St Stephen's CofE, Heath Town; St Andrews CofE, Whitmore Reans; Parkfields Primary and Bhylls Acre in Finchfield.
SHINE Academies (ALL)
SHINE Academies is closing all its primary schools in Wolverhampton.
They are Northwood Park in Bushbury and Villiers in Bilston.
Elston Hall Primary School
Elston Hall Primary School will be closed on Friday, January 9.
Long Knowle Primary School
Long Knowle Primary School in Wednesfield will be closed: "in light of the predicted weather forecast for heavy snow and Storm Goretti arriving."
Grove Primary School
Grove Primary School will be closed tomorrow, but they say: "We are hopeful that school will reopen as normal on Monday 12th January."
St Luke's CE Aided Primary School
St Luke's CE Aided Primary School will be closed on Friday, January 9. Headteacher Mrs Grennan said: "This decision has not been taken lightly."
Woden Primary School
Woden Primary School will be closed on Friday, January 9.
Stow Heath Primary School
Stow Heath Primary School will be closed on Friday, January 9.
Graisley Primary School
Graiseley Primary School in Wolverhampton will be closed on January 9.
Wilkinson Primary School
Wilkinson Primary School in Bilston will be closed on Friday, January 9.

All students are off school, including Year 13s with public examinations.

The school said: "Due to the forecast adverse weather conditions, the academy will be closed tomorrow (Friday, January 9). Thank you for your ongoing support."

Hagley Catholic High School has confirmed it will be closed tomorrow due to the "impending weather warnings".
