Tributes paid as Oldbury headteacher retires after 38 years in education
Perryfields Primary pays tribute to retiring headteacher
A primary school in Oldbury has paid an emotional tribute to its retiring headteacher after 18 years serving the community.

Terry Jones is bringing to an end a 38-year career in education, having shaped the lives of countless children, families and colleagues.
The school said that, since becoming headteacher in 2008, Mrs Jones has led Perryfields Primary School on Apsley Road with "warmth, determination and an unwavering belief that every child deserves the very best start in life". Her commitment to both academic achievement and children's wellbeing has helped create a school where pupils are encouraged to flourish, develop confidence and enjoy learning.
Throughout her time at Perryfields, Mrs Jones successfully guided the school through five Ofsted inspections, maintaining high standards and driving continuous improvement while preserving the caring and inclusive ethos for which the school is well known.
One of her proudest achievements has been introducing the internationally recognised OPAL (Outdoor Play and Learning) programme, transforming playtimes into exciting opportunities for creativity, independence and social development. The initiative has enhanced the school environment and enriched the daily experiences of every child, reflecting Mrs Jones's belief that learning extends far beyond the classroom.

Deputy headteacher Mr Spittle said: "Mrs Jones is known for her compassionate leadership, calm approach and genuine care for everyone in the school community. She has inspired generations of children while mentoring and supporting many members of staff throughout their own careers."
Away from school, Mrs Jones is a devoted mum to her daughters, Meg and Katie, whom she proudly speaks about whenever she has the opportunity. Family has always been at the heart of everything she does, balancing the demands of leading a busy primary school with raising two daughters of whom she is immensely proud.
Reflecting on her career, Mrs Jones said: "It has been an incredible privilege to spend 38 years doing a job that I truly love. Watching children grow in confidence, discover their talents and achieve things they never thought possible has been the greatest reward.
"I feel incredibly fortunate to have worked alongside such dedicated staff, supportive families and wonderful children. Perryfields will always hold a very special place in my heart."
As she begins her retirement, Mr Spittle said the Perryfields community would celebrate not only her remarkable achievements but also the kindness, integrity and passion she has brought to the school every single day.
He added: "Mrs Jones leaves behind a lasting legacy built on high expectations, innovation, care and opportunity. Her influence will continue to be felt for many years to come, and everyone at Perryfields wishes her a long, healthy and happy retirement filled with new adventures and precious time with family and friends."
