The 1963 issue of The Avengers #1 has an estimate of £1,000 to £1,500 ahead of the sale at Richard Winterton Auctioneers on November 2.

Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, the comic introduced the original superhero team of Iron Man, Thor, the Hulk, Ant-Man and the Wasp.

The copy is described as being in very good condition for its age, with all pages intact and only minor signs of wear.

It is part of a collection of around 700 comics from a single owner, which will be sold in 30 lots.

The collection also includes early editions of The Amazing Spider-Man, featuring the first appearances of several well-known characters, including the Lizard in issue six, Mysterio in issue 13, the Shocker in issue 46 and Morbius in issue 101.

A spokesperson for Richard Winterton Auctioneers said the collection had been brought to the firm following an email enquiry about a valuation.

The Avengers first appeared together in September 1963. Captain America joined the team in issue four, after being discovered frozen in ice.

The November 2 auction begins at 9am, with bidding available in person, online or by pre-arranged telephone bid.

The comics can be viewed at The Lichfield Auction Centre, Wood End Lane, Fradley Park, between 10am and 4pm on Friday, October 30.
