Grace Cares gives volunteers a chance to pause and focus on their own wellbeing
“Our volunteers give so much to support people across our community”
Volunteers at Lichfield-based circular economy enterprise Grace Cares took time to pause, connect and recharge during a special wellbeing session designed to support those who give their time to helping others.

The organisation welcomed local coaching business Nicola Kathryn Coaching to its latest volunteer Coffee, Cake and Catch Up event, where volunteers learned practical breathwork techniques to help manage stress and support their wellbeing.
The sessions are designed to give volunteers the chance to step back, share experiences and feel supported as part of the Grace Cares community. The organisation said it recognises that while supporting vulnerable people can be rewarding, it can also be emotionally demanding.
As a predominantly volunteer-run not-for-profit, Grace Cares places the wellbeing of its volunteers at the heart of its work, encouraging them to “put their own oxygen mask on first” so they can continue supporting others.
Breathwork provides a simple and accessible way to help regulate the nervous system, reduce stress and create moments of calm - skills that can benefit volunteers both in their roles and in everyday life.

Emma Smith, co-founder of Grace Cares, said: “Our volunteers give so much to support people across our community, so it’s important we give something back. Sessions like this remind everyone that it’s OK to pause and look after themselves too.”
Nicola Forsyth, of Nicola Kathryn Coaching, said: “It was a privilege to spend time with the wonderful Grace Cares volunteers. Having lost family members to terminal illnesses, I have some understanding of how difficult it can be to support others, and the toll it can take.
“Both the charity and its wonderful volunteers do an incredible job to make life easier for vulnerable people and their carers, while also positively contributing to the circular economy.
“Breathwork is a simple but powerful tool to help regulate the nervous system, manage stress and calm the body and mind. It was wonderful to see the group give it a go, come together and support one another.”
Grace Cares hosts its Coffee, Cake and Catch Up sessions twice a year, giving volunteers the opportunity to connect, share experiences and enjoy time together outside their usual roles.
The organisation is currently welcoming new volunteers, whether they are able to help occasionally or on a more regular basis. To find out more, contact 01543 730189 or email [email protected].
