Celebrate Year of Reading 2026 at city's libraries this Easter

Families across Wolverhampton are being invited to dive into a world of stories, creativity and fun this Easter as the city’s libraries host an exciting programme of activities for children and young people.

2026 is the National Year of Reading – a nationwide campaign led by the National Literacy Trust in partnership with the Department for Education, championing the power of reading to transform lives.

A range of free events are taking place over the Easter school holidays. Central Children’s Library has an Easter Baby Bop for under 4s on Tuesday, March 31 from 10.30-11.30am, an Easter Bunnies story and craft session for over 5s on Wednesday, April 1 from 2-3.30pm, Brain Olympics with the NHS for over 5s on Tuesday, April 7 from 11am-2pm, and a Spring Fever story and craft session for over 5s on Wednesday, April 8 from 2-3.30pm.

Also at Central Library, older children aged seven to 12 can enjoy Creative Writing with Explore Learning on Tuesday, April 7 from 2-3pm, and Spring Digital Art on Friday, April 10 from 2.30-3.30pm. Call 01902 552023 to book.

Meanwhile, Tettenhall Library is hosting an Easter Egg-Stravaganza story and craft session for the over 4s on Saturday, March 28 from 11am-12.30pm, and Warstones Library has a Family Board Games Drop-In session on Monday, March 30 from 11am-2pm, and an Easter Egg Hunt from Monday, March 30 until Friday, April 10, both of which are suitable for children of all ages.

And there will be a series of Robot Games sessions for children aged six and over, taking place at Low Hill Library on Tuesday, March 31 from 2.30-3.30pm, Pendeford Library on Thursday, April 2 from 11.30am-12.30pm, Spring Vale Library on Tuesday, April 7 from 11.30am-12-30pm, and Ashmore Park Library on Thursday, April 9 from 11.30am-12.30pm.

"This Easter programme shows just how exciting and inspiring reading can be – whether through storytelling, digital art or creative challenges – and we're encouraging families to come along to join in the fun and make the most of their local library."
