The Recipe Bags project provides a family of four with all the necessary ingredients and a recipe card to make a healthy nutritious meal. The food bank supplies the lists of ingredients for the different meals as well as the recipe bags themselves and the club returns them filled.

The bags are then handed out by the foodbank in addition to a food parcel, encouraging families to cook a meal with the ambient ingredients. They currently have 20 different recipe bag meals offering a variety of recipes including chilli con carne, fish cakes, chicken casserole and cottage pie.

All of the recipe bag ingredients can be found on the Food Bank’s shopping list for their food parcels, with the addition of some seasoning.

Foodbank CEO Jen Coleman said: “A huge thank you to Kinver Rotary, who have generously donated the recipe bags for our cookery project. These bags are always incredibly popular - they help families cook together, build confidence in the kitchen and enjoy simple, healthy meals during difficult times.

Your support makes a real and meaningful difference in our community. Thank you for standing with us to help local families.”

Instead of just providing volumes of non-specific items, people are asked to purchase and donate the ingredients for a variety of recipes. This ensures the ingredients to feed a whole meal are provided rather than the families having to purchase additional items. The step-by-step instructions are also in the bag so there is no need for supplementary recipe books.

Graham Smith, Kinver Rotary President, said: “Kinver Rotary have been supporting the Black Country Foodbank for many years with substantial monetary donations from our annual Santa Sleigh collections along with several of our members making personal monthly donations.

“We have had several talks from the charity on the various projects that they have worked on and as to how the demand for their services have grown over the years. In 2025, Jen Coleman told us of their quest to try and give some self-respect back to the vulnerable individuals and families that depend on their support by the provision of recipe bags to handout.
