The funding has enabled Stourbridge BID to purchase three new wooden benches for the public gardens at St Thomas Church on Market Street. The gardens are a well-used community space where students, residents, visitors and town centre workers regularly spend time eating lunch, reading, meeting friends or simply relaxing.

The new benches will replace existing seating that has deteriorated due to damage and general wear and tear. By improving the seating in this well-used green space, the project will help ensure the gardens remain a welcoming and comfortable place for the community to enjoy.

Stourbridge BID is coordinating the ordering, delivery and installation of the benches, as well as arranging brass plaques, while working alongside St Thomas Church to deliver the improvements.

The grant was awarded through West Bromwich Building Society’s Mercian Community Trust, a grant scheme that supports charities and community organisations across the Society’s branch network area and other parts of the West Midlands. The Trust is funded by the Society’s Community Account and administered in partnership with the Diocese of Lichfield.

Aaron Powell, Chair of Stourbridge BID, said: “We are extremely grateful to West Bromwich Building Society for their generous £505 community grant to Stourbridge BID. Support like this enables us to continue delivering projects that enhance the town centre and benefit the businesses, residents and visitors who make Stourbridge such a vibrant place. We sincerely thank the Building Society for backing our work in the BID area.”

Stuart Jones, Branch Manager at West Bromwich Building Society’s Stourbridge branch, said: “I am so pleased that the West Brom Building Society have been able to support the Stourbridge BID with a grant. We always want to be at the forefront of the communities our branches serve and having a branch in Stourbridge means we will be able to see these funds work for the people of Stourbridge, fellow businesses and Stourbridge as a whole.”

Stourbridge BID would like to thank West Bromwich Building Society and the Mercian Community Trust for their support in helping enhance this valued community space.
