Wrekin and Geoworks gain ground in 2025
Civil engineering product manufacturer Wrekin, alongside its subdivision Geoworks, has recorded significant growth despite a punishing year for the overall construction market – resulting in more than one million product sales in 2025.
As UK housebuilding declined by around 8% against a backdrop of high interest rates and inflation, Wrekin’s turnover grew by 12%.
This growth was underlined by a series of major deals with utilities companies, as new and renewed frameworks were secured with BT, Severn Trent Water and Thames Water. The Lichfield-based business’ turnover from its water, telecoms and energy offerings grew markedly.
The success of the past 12 months was fuelled by a workforce which expanded in both its size and productivity. Wrekin’s productivity rose by a resounding 25%, as picking output per person per day increased from 19 to 24 tonnes. Meanwhile 13 new staff members were employed across Wrekin and Geoworks, significantly increasing capacity.
Simon Turner, managing director at Wrekin, said: “In the past year we’re proud to have bucked the trend despite an overall market decline, so we’re entering 2026 with a real sense of momentum.
“We’ve been able to improve our service levels, and the systems upon which our business runs are stronger than ever. Most importantly, while we have grown, we have kept to our priorities of leading the market in quality, safety and sustainability. We’re confident in the depth of our technical expertise and experience, and well-chosen additions to our team last year have only bolstered our ability to support customers in the future.”
The civil engineering firm’s growth in the past year was achieved without compromising its sustainability. Wrekin ranked in the top 15% of all companies audited by sustainability-rating firm EcoVadis, achieving its Silver status but pushing for Gold status in 2026, alongside a Gold accreditation from the Supply Chain Sustainability School. These recognitions provide an accredited external benchmark for the business’ strong environmental performance, while 2026 will see Wrekin publish its first sustainability report with clear and transparent data on its carbon footprint and the actions it is undertaking to improve in all areas of ESG.
As a further indicator of sustainable priorities, Wrekin continued to lead the UK market on Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), which quantify a product’s environmental impact over its lifecycle. In 2025, Wrekin remained the only supplier that offers full cradle-to-grave EPDs across its ductile iron range.
Geoworks, the standalone division of Wrekin which focuses on geosynthetics, also continued to make encouraging progress. Within a softening market, and contending with increased competition, Geoworks marked a significant 10% increase in the total product weight it sold.
The firm’s offering of products continued to build its momentum within the market:
Geoworks’ popular MultiTrack 1000, a highly-versatile geotextile, sold 17% more than the previous year.
The TerraTrack Lite was launched successfully, adding a highly-permeable mini-roll to a comprehensive range of geosynthetic options.
The firm launched its new application guides for geotextiles and geopaving, helping to expand the market by offering accessible guidance to customers.
Geoworks further expanded its reach to architects and specifiers by joining SpecifiedBy, a comprehensive marketing and lead-generation platform. Continuing to demonstrate the success of its products, it hosted exhibitions at GroundsFest, an annual event in the UK aimed at grounds staff and greenkeepers, as well as FutureScape, a leading UK landscaping event.
Simon continued: “2025 has been a bumper year in which we have strengthened Wrekin’s position as the UK’s leading ironwork supplier and bespoke steel specialist. As scrutiny falls ever more heavily on infrastructure, we are committed to delivering solutions that work well, and work for a long time, while safeguarding the environment. In the process, we have raised more than £10,000 for different charities through fundraisers and volunteering days – to ensure that our impact as a business goes beyond just the engineering solutions we create.
“Geoworks has gone from strength to strength at the same time, helping to develop the overall market for geosynthetics. We have confidence that in the months to come we will build on the wins we have seen in the past year, and keep delivering for our customers.”
