Opera sensation to perform free concert in Walsall
An extra-special night of entertainment will take place on Friday, April 24, at St John’s Church, Walsall Wood, with opera singer Elena ‘Lala’ Whiteley performing.
The concert will be a bit of a homecoming for ‘Lala’ as she spent a lot of her youth in Walsall Wood, and she is very much looking forward to showing off her soprano skills in the excellent acoustics at St John’s.
In addition to a display of classic operatic vocal skills, the night’s entertainment will be a free concert.
“This is very much intended to be a community event,” said a St John’s spokesperson. “It will be both a professional concert and a cultural moment to savour.”

‘Lala’ is a graduate of the Royal Northern College of Music and has recently performed with English National Opera. She is due to play Adele in Strauss’ Die Fledermaus with York Opera in the summer, in addition to appearing at Berlin OpernFest with the Berlin Opera Academy.
St John’s concert will begin at 7.30pm and doors will open at 6.45pm.
Refreshments including tea, coffee and nibbles will be available.
