Students get a taste of finance careers
Students at Rockwood Academy, part of CORE Education Trust, visited Goldman Sachs’ Birmingham office as part of a ‘Future Skills’ workshop designed to bring the world of work to life.
Business, computer science, and digital IT students explored the range of careers available at the global finance firm, heard employees share their career journeys, and took part in practical sessions on CV writing, interview techniques, and essential workplace skills. They were joined by students from Birmingham’s City Academy, which is part of the same trust.
The year 10 visit forms part of Rockwood Academy’s wider programme supporting students as they prepare for life after school, whether that’s further education, apprenticeships, or employment.

The school places a strong emphasis on developing entrepreneurial and practical skills for all students and comprehensive careers provision helps young people make informed choices about their interests and ambitions across a range of subjects and industries.

“What a brilliant and enlightening day for our students," said Richard Reeve, headteacher at Rockwood Academy.
"They really threw themselves into the activities and left inspired, with a much clearer sense of the skills and attitudes employers value. Many thanks to the team at Goldman Sachs for sharing their time and insight.”

Goldman Sachs opened its Birmingham office in 2022 and, in November last year, announced plans to double its 500-strong workforce.
James Westwood, Executive Director, Asset & Wealth Management, Goldman Sachs Asset Management International, said: "It was a privilege to host the year 10 students from Rockwood Academy at our offices.
"We were incredibly impressed by their high level of engagement and the proactive attitude they brought to the event. From sessions on investment banking and finance to mock trials and refining their interview techniques, the students demonstrated a genuine curiosity and a clear ambition for their future careers, and we are delighted to have played a part in their career journey.”
