As part of the celebrations, children took part in an Inter-Trust Book Quiz, working together in their classes to answer questions about popular stories and well-known authors. The quiz encouraged teamwork while allowing pupils to test their literary knowledge in a fun and collaborative way.

The school was also delighted to welcome B.Ware, also known as Jo Stacey, a visiting author on Friday 6 March, who spent time with pupils sharing insights into the writing process and inspiring children to develop their own reading and storytelling skills.

After school, families had the opportunity to meet B.Ware in the playground and purchase signed copies of their books.

Another highlight of the week was the “Catch Me Reading!” initiative, which invited pupils to share photographs of themselves reading in their favourite or most unusual places.

From cosy dens to garden corners and creative hiding spots, the photos showcased the many ways children enjoy reading both in and out of school.

To mark the occasion, pupils came to school dressed in whatever they felt most comfortable reading in. Some chose casual clothes or pyjamas, while others dressed as their favourite book characters, creating a vibrant and imaginative atmosphere throughout the school.

Jenni Downes, Principal of Erdington Hall School, said: “World Book Day is always a wonderful opportunity to celebrate reading for pleasure. It was fantastic to see our learners so engaged in the activities and sharing their enthusiasm for books with their friends and teachers.”
