Children celebrate Commonwealth Day at Westminster Abbey
Children from Yarnfield Primary School, part of the Summit Learning Trust, recently had the opportunity to attend the Commonwealth Day Service of Celebration 2026 at Westminster Abbey, joining young people, leaders and representatives from across the Commonwealth to celebrate shared values and global connections.
The annual service, organised by the Royal Commonwealth Society, marks Commonwealth Day and highlights the importance of unity, diversity and cooperation among the 56 member nations of the Commonwealth of Nations.
Learners from Yarnfield were proud to represent their school at this prestigious event, experiencing a day of reflection, cultural celebration and international collaboration. The service brought together young people from across the UK, providing the children with a memorable opportunity to witness the significance of the Commonwealth and its impact around the world.

The visit formed part of the school’s commitment to enriching students’ understanding of global citizenship and encouraging them to engage with international issues and cultural diversity.
Craig Clarke, Executive Lead at Yarnfield Primary School, said: “We are incredibly proud that our Yarnfield learners were able to attend the Commonwealth Day celebrations at Westminster Abbey. Experiences like this give our students a powerful opportunity to see the wider world beyond the classroom. Taking part in such a significant event helps them develop a deeper appreciation of the diverse cultures, shared values and global connections that unite the Commonwealth of Nations.”
