The Cygnet Health Care service, on Woodcross Street, is a 20-bed hospital for men with mental health needs. During the day of celebrations there was a quiz and a costume competition where staff and residents took to the cat walk to show off their outfits.

Activity Co-ordinator Sam Goode said: “We celebrated World Book Day for the first time last year. It went really well, so this year we wanted to make it bigger and the response we got off everyone was fantastic. We love a quiz at Sedgley House, it always goes down well.”

There were a variety of characters and costumes on display – from a fruit salad to our therapy superhero team, and it was a tight contest all the way, deciding the best costumes.

Following a round of voting, in third place was the Psychology team dressed as Hansel and Gretel. Second place went to Hospital Manager, Jessica Skinner, and Head of Care, Carly Slimm, as Grease Lightning. The 2026 best costume winner was Senior Support Worker Tenesha as a Hufflepuff student from the Harry Potter books.

Activity Co-ordinator Kellie added: “We had great feedback from one of our residents stating how it really lifted his mood watching us all dressed up in our costumes and having fun, which was the cherry on the cake after another fun day our residents and staff.

“It was fantastic day for everyone and showed the Sedgley spirit once again.”
