It begins on Saturday, March 21 with a Days Gone By family craft session at 11am and, on Monday, March 23 at 11.30am, continues with Buskateers Billy Spakemon and Tim Martin providing some much-loved entertainment.

On Tuesday, March 24 from 10.15am to 10.45am, a 1930s-style Rattle and Rhymes session for toddlers and grown-ups will be followed at 11am by Words, Poems and Memories by Colley Lane Writers.

There is an opportunity to dress up for Ned Williams’ talk about The Black Country in the 1930s at 2pm on Wednesday, March 25 - after more 1930s Rattle and Rhymes fun that morning.

On 26 March 1936, Mr S S Somers inserted a gold key into Cradley Library’s lock saying, “I have great honour in declaring this library open.” To celebrate the occasion 90 years on, Jill Guest will be showcasing Cradley Library Memories on Thursday at 11am in the library, when a birthday cake will also be cut.

The week will complete with 1930s-style Rattle and Rhymes’ fun at 10.15am on Friday, March 27.

“It’s going to be another important milestone in Cradley Library’s history and there will doubtless be many fond memories shared,” said Sue Morgan-Salcombe, Library Manager.

“All events are free of charge, but booking is essential.”

Operating under the Better brand, GLL is the not-for-profit social enterprise that runs Cradley Library on behalf of Dudley Council.

Councillor Damian Corfield, cabinet member for neighbourhoods, said: “Cradley Library has been part of the community for nine decades, and this anniversary is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate everything our libraries represent - learning, creativity, connection and local pride.

“I’m delighted to see such a vibrant programme of events that brings people of all ages together.”
