During their visit, students participated in a range of engaging activities, enjoyed a comprehensive campus tour, and received valuable guidance to support their forthcoming GCSE option choices. The programme aims to inspire young people by giving them a taste of university life, helping them to set high aspirations and make informed decisions about their future.

The visit also reinforces Cockshut Hill School’s commitment to providing meaningful experiences that broaden learners horizons and support them in making confident choices about their next steps in education.

The Aspire to Aston programme offers a progressive series of workshops and activities for year 9 to year 11 children, designed to boost GCSE attainment and develop key academic skills such as study and revision techniques.

Over the three-year programme, successful participants take part in subject-specific taster sessions, study skills workshops, and a Summer School, all aimed at raising aspirations, increasing motivation, and supporting progression into Higher Education.

Participants also have the opportunity to meet leading experts and current Aston University students, gaining first-hand insights into university life and building the knowledge, skills, and experiences that will help them achieve their academic and professional goals.

Jody Clarke, Principal at Cockshut Hill said: "The Aspire to Aston Programme is an excellent opportunity for our year 9 learners to explore higher education and think ahead to their GCSE options. It was fantastic to see the group engage with the activities and enjoy their campus experience."
