Halesowen College hosts event to celebrate International Women's Day
On Wednesday, March 4, Halesowen College proudly hosted a vibrant and thought-provoking event in celebration of International Women's Day.
The occasion brought together a dynamic panel of women leaders, each excelling within their respective industries, to inspire and engage students at the college. The panel discussion focused on career journeys, the significance of ambition, motivations for success and the ongoing drive to secure equality in the workplace.

The panel included:
Jacquie Carman – Principal, Halesowen College
Sarah Moorhouse – CEO, Black Country Chamber of Commerce
Emma Hinton – Partner, Browne Jackson LLP
Karen Smallwood – CEO, Wolverhampton Grand
Karen Brogan – Director of People and Organisational Development, Dudley NHS Foundation Trust
Rachel Barlow - Group Chief Development Officer, Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust
Jeanette McFarland – Chief Operating Officer – Assa Abloy
Students from across the college listened to the speakers and were invited to ask the panel pertinent questions, including how they ensure a work-life balance in the role, who or what inspired them and what advice they would give your 17 year-old self.
International Women's Day is a reminder of the progress made and the work still required to achieve true gender equality. The theme of this year’s International Women’s Day is “Give to Gain”. When individuals, organisations and communities give generously – whether it be time, resources, or support – opportunities for women multiply and their voices are heard, creating a fairer and more inclusive society. Halesowen College remains committed to empowering its students, fostering ambition, and providing a platform for meaningful conversations that inspire change.
Jacquie Carman, Principal of Halesowen College, shared her reflections on the event, saying, "We have come a long way, but there is still much to be done. Advocating for equality – at home, at work, with friends and in every social and professional arena – is vital. Each of us has a role to play in fostering an environment where everyone, regardless of gender, has the opportunity to thrive.”
