More than £20k collected for cancer research by Wyre Forest fundraisers
Wyre Forest fundraisers collected more than £20,000 for vital research into cancer treatments and cures last year.
The district’s fundraising committee for Cancer Research UK reported at its annual meeting that £23,365 had been collected from a variety of events and donations.
Donations, including in memoriams, amounted to £11,000, last year’s lunch with guest speaker, TV personality Chris Tarrant, raised £5,400 with a further £1,500 donation made on the day from Certas Energy, owner of Gulf Oil on behalf of employees in memory of a colleague who died from cancer.
A further £2,755 was raised for the charity at the annual Rainbow Cancer Care Foundation Golf Day in Cleobury Mortimer, Anne-Marie Simms donated £1,000 from the sale of her Bewdley calendars, Stourport photographer Peter Greenwood raised £450 from the sale of his calendars, and a jazz night in Ombersley, arranged by the committee’s life-president Peter Tomlinson, raised £470.
Giving his report, treasurer David Smith said: “We are very grateful to everyone who supported our events and to those who raised money on our behalf, taking the total donated to Cancer Research UK via our small committee to well over £1 million.”
Another year of fundraising events is being planned and new members interested in joining the committee would be very welcome.
