Charity bookshops set to make World Book Day three times the adventure for young bookworms
Young bookworms across Staffordshire are set for three days of literary fun as St Giles Hospice bookshops mark World Book Day this March.
The charity’s bookshops in Ashby, Burton, Lichfield and Mere Green will be celebrating from Thursday, March 5 to Saturday, March 7, with a special focus on children’s reading.
Across the three days, the shops will be highlighting their children’s sections and offering three children’s books for the price of two, encouraging families to discover new stories and revisit old favourites. The event aims to inspire a love of reading while helping to keep books affordable and accessible for local families.
Young visitors who arrive dressed as their favourite book character will also receive a small sweet treat from the shop teams, adding an extra touch of magic to the occasion.

The initiative follows the success of last year’s World Book Day celebrations, which saw many children visiting the shops in costume and sharing their enthusiasm for reading.
Nicola Brannen-Mott, Deputy Head of Retail at St Giles Hospice, said: “Last year it was wonderful to see so many children excited about books and eager to try something new. We loved seeing the creativity in their outfits and hearing about their favourite characters.
“World Book Day is a lovely opportunity to celebrate reading and help make books accessible to families in our community. We are looking forward to welcoming everyone again this year.”
St Giles Hospice provides specialist palliative and end of life care, free of charge, for people living with terminal illnesses across Staffordshire, North Birmingham and surrounding areas. Funds raised through its network of shops help support that care.
