Nurses dedicate 6,000-mile journey to helping underprivileged children
Two Cygnet Health Care nurses from Birmingham travelled 6,000 miles to volunteer at a charity for underprivileged and orphaned children.
Ben Roberts, a Learning Disabilities Nurse, and Holly Hunt, a Mental Health Nurse, both work at Cygnet Cedars, a 23-bed high dependency care service for men with learning disabilities and mental health needs in Bordesley Green.
The Cygnet Health Care staff recently spent two weeks in Thailand volunteering for the charitable foundation Phuket Has Been Good To Us.
The charity provides 24-hour care in a school setting to children who do not have families and gives them the opportunity to learn English through therapeutic activities.

Ben explained the purpose of their visit: “We visited the area of Kamala, in Phuket, for two weeks and it was great to be able to help with sporting events, cooking classes and extra-curricular studies. As nurses, wanting to help others comes naturally so this was a great opportunity for us to give something back to the less fortunate.
“By fundraising with the Cygnet Cedars team throughout 2025, we were able to raise money for this volunteer outreach project and bring them crucial resources.”
The nursing duo donated first-aid supplies, toys, sweet treats, oral hygiene projects and antiseptic creams.
Ben said: “Phuket Has Been Good To Us and its pupils were overwhelmed with the generosity of our Cygnet Health Care team. We will definitely continue to work closely with the foundation through future fundraising as it relies heavily on donations.
“Every year, Cygnet Cedars focuses on a different charity for our fundraising efforts. The whole team has been so supportive.”
