This is the first event organised by the reformed Friends Group for the park and is being coordinated by Stourbridge Running Club members David Sheppard and Bob Hopkins.

Local runner David Sheppard said: “We hope this free-to-enter event will be a success. People must sign up in advance using the online form.

“Parking is limited on site, so please do not park obstructively on local residential streets. The event is limited to 175 runners or walkers while we trial it. If successful, it may become a regular Stourbridge Parkrun, provided we receive enough support from runners, potential marshals and additional co-race directors.”

The Friends Group will be trialling a three-lap course. The run will be timed and participants will receive a race number, which must be collected on the day before 8.50am.

Participants are encouraged to consider walking to the park from Wollaston or the Old Quarter where possible.

Parking options include:

  1. Wollaston Junction car park and toilets, Meridian Avenue, DY8 4QL, or rear of the Unicorn, DY8 3NX (approximately 60 spaces combined).

  2. Mary Stevens Park car park and toilets, DY8 2AA (approximately 125 spaces, less than half a mile walk).

  3. Two on-site car parks, DY8 3UU (approximately 60 spaces, no toilets available).

Lois Bramall, former Councillor for Wollaston and Chair of the Friends Group for Swan Pool Park, said: “We hope runners will make a morning of it and support local cafés in Wollaston Village and around Mary Stevens Park. There are a number of excellent cafés that would welcome the additional custom.

“There will also be a bucket collection for St John Ambulance, who will be providing first aid cover, and we hope people will consider donating to this good cause.”

Following the event, the Friends Group will be carrying out a park clean-up. Runners and supporters are warmly invited to stay and help.
