Political opinion: MP welcomes funding for NHS clean power upgrades in Halesowen
Alex Ballinger MP has welcomed the news that Labour will be funding clean power upgrades that will help the NHS in Halesowen cut their energy bills.
The Labour government has announced details of the nearly 200 NHS sites that will benefit from funding jointly delivered alongside Great British Energy, with Halesview and The Elms Health Centre in line for funding.
The announcement builds on the work of Great British Energy’s solar for schools and hospitals programme, and will mean less money wasted on energy bills and more resources going back into frontline services.
It’s estimated that the measures announced today will save the NHS nearly £30 million a year on energy bills, with a handful of military sites across the country also set to benefit.
Commenting, Alex Ballinger MP said: “This fantastic investment by Great British Energy in Halesowen will mean the NHS spending less money on energy bills and more resources being directed into the thing that really matters - frontline services.
“Through Great British Energy, Labour is delivering energy security, investing in our public services and delivering lower bills for our communities.”
Matt Collins, Labour candidate for Cradley North and Wollescote, added: “I welcome this increased funding for The Elms Health Centre here in Cradley. It shows Labour’s clear commitment to supporting and strengthening our NHS, so local people can access the care they need closer to home.”
Energy Secretary Ed Miliband said: “We’re investing in clean power for the NHS so more money can go back into frontline services.
“This is our clean power mission in action – cutting bills, investing in our communities, and providing energy security for our country.”
