Primary school dives into water sustainability
Learners and staff members at Kineton Green Primary School in Solihull, part of the Summit Learning Trust, welcomed representatives from Severn Trent Water into school to learn more about sewage, water treatment, and the importance of not wasting water as part of Kineton Green’s ongoing commitment to sustainability.
The visit highlighted how everyday actions can protect water supplies and the environment, helping young people understand the role they can play in creating a more sustainable future. As one of Britain’s largest water companies, Severn Trent Water impacts the lives of millions of people across the Midlands, from the outskirts of Sheffield to Bristol and across north and mid-Wales.
Severn Trent Water provides more than eight million people with fresh, clean drinking water every day, supplying around two billion litres daily. Once used, wastewater is taken away, treated, and returned safely to the environment.
The visit closely aligns with the school’s ethos of creating a safe, enjoyable, and exciting community where every learner is valued and encouraged to explore their potential. Through an engaging and broad curriculum, learners develop a love of learning, high aspirations, and the confidence to succeed in an ever-changing world. Individual talents are recognised and nurtured so that all learners can achieve their full potential and leave as caring, resilient, and inquisitive young adults.

As part of the wider Summit Learning Trust, the school is committed to having a positive impact within its academies and across local and wider communities. Sustainability sits at the heart of this work, with a clear focus on reducing environmental impact and supporting action on climate change.
The Trust’s Sustainability Strategy focuses on practical, achievable actions guided by the TREAD Lightly principles. These include turning off unused equipment, reducing consumption, improving energy efficiency, exploring alternative energy sources, and encouraging everyone to take responsibility and act.
By working with partners such as Severn Trent Water, the school and Summit Learning Trust continue to strengthen their commitment to environmental responsibility while equipping young people with the knowledge and values they need to make a positive difference in the world.
Mr Neil Kitching, Principal at Kineton Green Primary School said: “Opportunities like this help our learners connect what they learn in the classroom to the real world. Understanding how water is treated, protected, and conserved empowers our young people to make informed choices and see how their actions can have a positive impact on their community and the environment.”
