‘Call yourself a photographer?’ competition puts club members to the test
Tettenhall Wood Photographic Club members took part in a themed competition titled ‘Call yourself a photographer?’ and were challenged to focus on using the camera settings and submitting photographs ‘straight out of the camera’.
With no help allowed from modern editing software such as Photoshop and Lightroom, photographers needed to be in tune with their camera settings to try and find the right subject matter to allow them to capture the ideal shot.
We welcomed back judge John Haines, from Great Barr Camera Club, to offer his critique on the sixty or so images put forward and assign the honours for the general, intermediate and advanced classes of photographers.

Section winners were considered together to determine who would be awarded the overall trophy for the Themed Competition. First place went to Neil Kingsbury with ‘Sky Slope’ rewarded for the leading lines, clarity and simplicity; second place went to John Gainham for ‘South Island’, for the level of detail in the foreground and background and the way the shape of the ice mirrored that of the mountain behind; third place went to Ian Griffiths for ‘Through the water’, the judge commented on the skill of the exposure and having the rider in focus.
All of the placed images can be seen on our Facebook page facebook.com/twpcphoto and on our website twpc.org.uk.

We look forward to the next meeting tomorrow (February 10) with guest speaker David Lowe talking about the different methods for converting colour images to black and white.
