Matt Witts, owner of MW Seafoods, joined Brierley Hill Market last summer and has quickly built a loyal customer base thanks to his high-quality, dayboat-fresh British fish.

After the previous butcher stall owner recently confirmed plans to move onto a new opportunity, Matt made the decision to step in and expand his business - ensuring the market did not lose an important traditional offer.

Matt said: “When the old butcher’s stall was going, I knew it would have a real impact on the market if it was left empty, so I decided to take the risk and take it over.

"We’ve got family history in both meat and fish, so bringing the two together felt like the right thing to do. It means customers can now get everything they need in one place, and it’s been great to see an upturn in trade since combining the two.”

The expansion means shoppers can now buy fresh fish and quality meat from one larger stall, helping strengthen the market’s role as a destination for the weekly shop. Pre-orders are also welcome, with Matt able to source specific cuts of meat or fish to order.

Brierley Hill councillor Adam Davies said: “It’s fantastic to see how well Matt has done since opening his fishmonger stall last year, and this expansion shows real commitment to Brierley Hill Market.

"By stepping in to take over the butcher stall, Matt has helped protect the variety that makes the market so important to the town, while making it even more convenient for shoppers.”

The move has been welcomed as another boost for the market.

Shane Birch-Bastock, director at Brierley Hill Community Forum, said: “Matt has quickly become a valued part of the market, and this expansion is great news. Filling the butcher stall and offering more choice keeps Brierley Hill Market busy and at the heart of the community.”

Brierley Hill councillor Wayne Little added: “This is a great example of how independent traders can adapt and grow when given the opportunity. Having meat and fish together in one place is a real bonus for customers and strengthens the market as a whole.”

MW Seafoods sells dayboat-fresh British fish alongside a wide range of quality meat products and is open on regular market days: Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 8am to 4pm.
