Local MP engages with 1st Rowley Regis Scouts
Scouts (young people aged 10 to 14) from 1st Rowley Regis Scout Group had the privilege of spending some time with their local MP Sarah Coombes.
Sarah spent an evening with them as they tried their hands at painting some benches they had made. This was part of completing their DIY badge. They had previously used a power saw to cut the wood and power screwdrivers to connect the pieces. Sarah engaged with the young people and had conversations around safety, social media, the environment, streetlights and their aspirations for the future. She also spoke with them about how she became the local MP, networking, carrying on and keep trying, and how she engages with people in her constituency. She added that she was impressed by the volunteers, the time they give and the wide range of activities they provided.

When asked what they like about being involved in Scouts, Logan and Flo said: “We do activities such as abseiling, camping, climbing and cooking. We have lots of fun and get involved in deciding the activities and badges we would like to do. We’ve learnt different life skills, including using a power saw to cut the wood for the new benches and then painting them.” When asked to describe Scouts in three words they said, “Amazing, enjoyable and fun.”
The Group currently have Squirrels (aged 4 to 6), Beavers (aged 6 to 8), Cubs (aged 8 to 10) and Scouts (10 to 14). With over 250 activities there is something for everyone. These activities range from air activities to craft, experiments to home help and pioneering to water activities.
