Rico returned to Arena Academy to share his career journey and provide students with a valuable insight into the creative industries.

Now working within the film and television sector, Rico has been involved in major productions including House of the Dragon, Supergirl and other high-profile projects. During the session, he spoke about his experiences, the range of roles available within the industry, and the skills, resilience and determination needed to succeed in it.

Students were given the opportunity to ask questions and learn first-hand about careers that many had not previously considered, helping to broaden their understanding of the pathways available to them beyond school.

The visit strongly reflected the CORE Education Trust values of collaboration, opportunity, respect and excellence. Welcoming former students back plays an important role in demonstrating real-world success and showing students what is possible with ambition and hard work.

Arena Academy is committed to delivering high-quality careers education. Through a comprehensive and personalised careers programme the school supports students to develop the knowledge, skills, attributes and experiences they need to make informed choices about their futures.

Encounters such as Rico’s visit help raise aspirations, improve social mobility and prepare students for further education, apprenticeships and the world of work.

Raj Mann, headteacher at Arena Academy, said: “This visit was a powerful example of how careers education can truly inspire young people. Seeing a former student succeed in a highly competitive industry such as film and television helps our students realise that these pathways are achievable with hard work and ambition.”
