New year plans cut short for Cannock ladies, next gathering already anticipated
Following an uplifting party and entertainment by David StJohn, leading to festivities, January 8 was to bring New Year wishes and friendship, as the Cannock and District Ladies met to enjoy an a two-course meal and hospitality, of Chase Golf & Country Club. Unfortunately, local weather dictated that the meeting was cancelled and we were unable to enjoy the fun brought by the Speaker, Ruth Graham ‘I’m a Celebrant - Get me Out of here.’
We looked forward to sharing the experiences of this young lady, who has unusually brought her background from the stage of stand-up comedy, to become an independent celebrant, free to conduct all kinds of services; from humanist through to those with prayers or those with spiritual content. Her services range from those of funeral celebrant, conducting marriages and vow renewals or baby naming.
To meet this variety, Ruth needs diplomacy, courage, humour and her wits, to juggle challenges and ensure it’s not about her instead, it’s meeting the needs of the people she is serving. It was disappointing the snow made it impractical for us to share the afternoon with Ruth, whose intriguing Presentation would have shared some of the best, worst and funniest examples of human behaviour. She covers West Midlands area, including Birmingham, Sutton Coldfield, Lichfield and surrounding areas and we have members from Wolverhampton, Cannock, Penkridge, Shrewsbury and Stafford who will be interested to hear her later in the year but guests and new members are also welcome.
As a club, we now look forward to meeting on February 5, for AGM when Mrs Christine Ballett, currently serving as Vice Chair, will take over role of Chairman, from Mrs Anne Bumford, who has served an exceptional five-year term.
Retired or semi-retired, professional or business ladies meet on the first Thursday each month at Chase Golf Club, 12 noon, to share meal, fellowship and speakers with outings and other activities.
