Hi-vis vests donated to Stafford pupils and local Scouts for winter safety
A local opticians has taken steps to keep children safe during the darker winter months by donating hi-visibility vests to pupils at Parkside Primary School and members of a local Scouts group.
The Specsavers store in Stafford, which is locally owned and run, provided the jackets to help ensure children are more visible when walking to and from school and during outdoor activities.
The donation comes as new research by Specsavers highlights the importance of visibility and good eyesight on the roads. One in ten drivers in the West Midlands believe they’d fail their driving test if they had to retake it today, with bad habits, nerves and even eyesight to blame. Less than one in five drivers describe their understanding of the UK’s road eyesight rules as ‘excellent’, and 13% admit they avoid certain driving conditions altogether due to concerns about their vision.

"Keeping our community safe is really important to us," says Satinder Mahal, store director at Specsavers Stafford. "During the winter months, visibility while driving can be reduced, and that’s when accidents are more likely to happen. Simple steps like wearing hi-vis clothing make a huge difference for children walking to school or taking part in outdoor activities.
"We’re proud to support local schools and groups with these donations, and we’d also remind drivers to book regular eye tests. Good vision is essential for road safety, and making sure you meet legal standards helps protect everyone on the road."
