Walsall school team brave snow in first Yorkshire Three Peaks training walk
Fifteen members of staff from Ryders Hayes Primary School have officially begun training for the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge, which will take place on March 21, by completing an eight-mile walk over the The Wrekin, braving an early start and snowy winter conditions.
The training walk took place earlier this week, with staff setting off in crisp morning temperatures and being rewarded with fresh snowfall and panoramic views along the route.
The walk marks the first of several planned training events as staff prepare physically and mentally for the demanding challenge next spring.
The challenge is being undertaken to raise money for The Oscar Mile, a fundraising campaign aiming to create a dedicated Daily Mile track in memory of Oscar.

The project reflects the values of the Primary Learning Trust, promoting collaboration, a strong sense of belonging, and opportunities for children and adults to flourish through improved health, wellbeing and shared purpose.
Staff taking part described the walk as challenging but uplifting, with encouragement and teamwork evident throughout the eight miles.
Leaders praised the commitment shown by participants, highlighting how the initiative brings colleagues together across the school, strengthening connections and reinforcing a culture where everyone is supported to achieve their best.

Fundraising efforts are now underway, and the school is inviting families, friends and the wider community to support the cause.

Further training walks will take place in the coming months as the team continues preparations for the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge on 21 March 2026, demonstrating how working together can create lasting, positive impact for pupils and the wider school community.
