Sedgley's young adults at Slimming World gain life-changing benefits beyond the scales, research reveals
New research reveals members aged 18–34 who attend a Slimming World group are not only losing weight but gaining confidence, improving their physical and mental health and building healthy new habits for life.
Slimming World Consultant Charlotte says for younger adults in Sedgley it’s the power of real-life connection and being part of a group that’s making all the difference.
The study of over 3,200 Slimming World members aged 18-34 found they lost an average of 12 per cent of their body weight – around 2st 1lb. Yet, the research revealed that the benefits of being a Slimming World member go far beyond physical change:
92 per cent feel part of a supportive community
89 per cent report a healthier relationship with food
59 per cent say their mental wellbeing has improved
The findings come as experts warn younger adults face the greatest risk of future weight gain. Global studies predict one in three children, teenagers and young adults could be living with overweight or obesity by 2050.
Younger adults in Sedgley are thriving, says Charlotte, who runs Slimming World groups in the area. She says: “We’re seeing incredible transformations in our younger members which go beyond the scales – it’s not just how they look, but how they feel too. They’re losing weight and gaining confidence, healthy habits and a sense of belonging that’s often missing in today’s digital world. At a time when our lives are dominated by screens and remote working, our weekly face-to-face groups feel like a breath of fresh air.

“From young parents who’ve found friendship and support to young professionals who’ve built confidence and resilience – our groups are a lifeline for younger adults and they’re finding real, human connection is powerful. When you’re losing weight alongside others, the accountability and commitment you share, combined with learning together, makes all the difference. It’s what drives real, lasting success.
“This research shows that Slimming World is helping younger people take control of their weight and health – transforming their relationship with food and fitness, boosting mental wellbeing and building strength and resilience.”
Charlotte says: “At Slimming World, everyone is welcome – people of all ages join our groups, lose weight and experience life-changing health and wellbeing benefits. From a fresh new group experience to even more flexibility in our eating plan, we’re making it easier for members to lose weight, eat well, feel good and get active – at their own pace.”
Slimming World’s unique approach combines a flexible, science-backed healthy eating plan with weekly group support. Members gain a deeper understanding of their personal barriers to weight loss and learn practical strategies to make lasting changes. Through shared experiences and encouragement, members are supported to navigate the ups and downs of weight loss while feeling part of an uplifting community.
Charlotte says: “Real change doesn’t happen when you go it alone – it happens when you’re surrounded by people who get it. Joining a Slimming World group means stepping into a space where you’re supported, encouraged and understood. Week by week, members are losing weight by turning small changes around food, drink and activity into lasting habits.
“The research shows us what we’re seeing in group – that younger adults are finding that the sense of community is key to improving both their physical and emotional wellbeing. Of the more than 3,000 members aged 18-34 we spoke to this time last year, the vast majority (92 per cent) say they now feel part of a supportive community, 93 per cent feel supported to change their mindset around food and 72 per cent say they’d recommend Slimming World to someone their age.
“With rates of obesity in younger adults reported to have tripled in the last 30 years, it’s clear the challenge is vast – and younger adults are feeling it more than ever. At Slimming World, we’re proud to be part of the solution. For more than 55 years, we’ve helped people of all ages lose weight and change their lives and right now, we’re seeing incredible success among younger members. They’re not just following a plan; they’re gaining a lifelong toolkit for healthy living.”
