Boss’ double verdict on Wolves heroes after Burnley comeback

Peixoto praised Fer Lopez and Tawanda Chirewa for their key roles in the victory.

Cesar Peixoto was pleased to see Fer Lopez back among the goals after Wolves’ disrupted return to domestic action.

Lopez returned early from international duty with a knee issue, which the Wolves boss admitted had affected his rhythm in recent outings.

The 22-year-old played a key role in Friday night’s comeback win at Burnley, scoring his sixth goal of the season to draw Wolves level.

“He is an important player,” he said. “He did not stay 100 per cent in the game, he had some difficulty with the rhythm. We have to change him because they play three games.

“He is not 100 per cent since coming back, but he is getting better. He has to do better like he did in the past for me, I want better all of the time from Fer and the team.”

Lopez celebrated passionately in front of the travelling supporters at Turf Moor after ending his goal drought since the international break.

Tawanda Chirewa then made an instant impact off the bench, scoring the winner as Wolves completed the comeback. Peixoto praised the 23-year-old for seizing his opportunity amid the absence of forwards Raul Jimenez and Adam Armstrong.

“I’m very pleased because he (Chirewa) works well and he’s waited for his opportunity,” Peixoto added.

“He played a lot of pre-season as a striker for us because Adam was injured and Raul came back later from the World Cup.

“We did almost all of pre-season without our strikers, and Tawanda played well in those games. In training, he also shows commitment and a desire to learn different positions to become a better player.

“Today, he took his opportunity and did very well. He scored, but it’s not only because he scored. He worked hard for the team. And it wasn’t only Tawanda. Sean and all the other players worked hard too. I think this was a victory for the whole team.”
