Colleagues from Specsavers in Aldridge entered the annual Christmas Tree Festival, proudly decorating their tree with photos of customers in their glasses. With the community invited to vote for their favourite tree, in an exchange for a donation, the proceeds went to Linking Lives, a charity that supports older adults who need some extra friendship. The High Street store also hosted a tombola, a Rudolph raffle and a contest to win a giant toy dog at the street fair.

"The Christmas Tree festival is one of the highlights of our year," Tajinder Showker, store director at Specsavers Aldridge, comments. "We really wanted to celebrate our community, which is why we chose to decorate our tree with the faces of some of our wonderful customers sporting their glasses. It was a really tough competition this year, and although we didn’t win, we’re thrilled that our efforts contributed to supporting Linking Lives."

Linking Lives, Aldridge is a befriending service aimed at older adults who find themselves requiring some extra friendship and support, and this is provided through weekly home visits or telephone calls. The charity match volunteers with people who are referred to them with all volunteers carefully selected, trained and vetted. To find out more visit: linkinglives.uk/project/aldridge/
